History
BERTA was established in 1969 by two Civil Engineers namely,
Berhane Abate and Taddesse Haile Selassie. Soon after its
establishment, the company was engaged in various types
of civil engineering works, it included construction of
road, bridges, irrigation schemes and water supply systems
it build projects such as hotels, residential quarters,
offices and factories all over the country. As a result
of its effective performance, BERTA has gained the appreciation
and respect of both its employers and competitors.
However, like many other private companies, BERTA was nationalized
in 1982 by the then Marxist regime and has been under government
administration for 11 years until it was returned to its
legitimate owners by court order in 1993.
After BERTA was returned to its owners, the company had
once again reorganized itself and launched a series of work
programs through revitalizing the existing manpower and
equipment. As a result, the company was able to complete
a number of building construction projects that were inherited
from the government.
