Amibara Irrigation Project


The project was part of a scheme to develop 10,000 Hectares in the Amibara area for the cultivation of cotton. The works were composed of secondary canals and primary & secondary drains serving approximately 4000 hectares. Also included were flood protection dykes, 17km of principal roads, 31km of secondary roads & an airstrip.

In addition there were buildings for project supervision including site works, access roads, fencing and water tanks for 18 villas. The project was successfully completed on schedule at a cost of Birr 25.0 million.

Beyahle Weir Project

The project is located in the lower Awash Basin about 20km away from Tendaho cotton plantation. It is owned by the Government of Ethiopia, the then Valleys Agricultural Development Authority. The project has costed over Birr 7 million which was totally financed by the Government of Ethiopia and it was supervised by Sir Alexander Gibb & Partners Consulting Company.

Five Towns Water Supply Systems Project

This project involved the construction of intake structures, row water pumping stations, water treatment plants, treated water pumping stations, transmission mains, equalizing reservoirs and distribution networks for 5 towns in Southern, Central and South Western town of Ethiopia, namely: Awasa, Yirga Alem, Ghion,Hagere Hiwot and Metu. The project was financed by the Federal Republic of Germany and was completed successfully on schedule in 1981 at a total cost of Birr 16.0 million.

The project was supervised by the German Water Engineering of the Federal Republic of Germany.
