Dejen – Bichena - Motta Road Project

The Project consisted of a 146km road connecting the town of Dejen to Motta, passing through the town of Bichena, in Gojam province. The project is an alternative route connecting Dejen to Bahir Dar, through Motta which reduces the route by certain kilo meters and give access road to the surrounding rural people. The project was financed by the International Development Agency (IDA). It was successfully completed on schedule in 1980 at a cost of Birr 21.0 million at the time under the supervision of DCI/TAMS a consulting company of USA.

Jimma - Chida Road Project

This road connects the town of Jimma to the town of Chida and is 82.5 km long located in South Western part of Ethiopia. The construction of this project was started in 1979, and was successfully completed on schedule in 1982. The project was financed by the Government of Ethiopia and the African Development Bank. The cost was Birr 23.0 million. The supervising engineer of the project, Dr. Engineer Walter GMBH & KG Intl. was from the Federal Republic of Germany.

Dawnt - Lalibela RR50 Project

The Dawnt - Lalibela Rural Road is 120km in length and extends from the village called Dawnt to the historical town of Lalibela. The terrain along the route was 60% mountainous and 40% rolling and sliding landscape.

The reinforced concrete bridge over the Kechin Abeba River consists of Y-framed pre-fab concrete girders This method of bridge construction is the first of its kind in the country and BERTA is proud of introducing the system to the local industry and to successfully withstand the demands posed by the introduction of such an engineering challenge.

BERTA undertook the Dawnt-Lalibela RR50 Project as a Turn-key contract which includes both the design and the construction of the road. The supervision of the project was carried out by Roughton International of UK at the initial stage (1993 -1998) and then by United Consulting Engineers (UNICONE) at the final stage (1998 – 2001). The overall project cost was Birr 72.159 million.
